Tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, rhenium, and niobium are essential components of superalloys exposed to high stress levels such as in turbine-blades in modern engines. These blades receive an additional heat insulation layer in order to withstand very high temperatures. H.C. Starck‘s AMPERIT®-products for this application are certified by leading turbine engine manufacturers. |
Products for abrasion protection and run-in layers for the smooth operation of the turbines complete our materials offering. Tungsten alloys are also used as balancing weights for trimming of airplanes, as well as for balancing helicopter rotor blades.
Our ceramic materials were successfully tested in space during the Discovery’s mission in August 2005 - they were part of the repair kit for the improvement of the ceramic heat protection tiles in the Space Shuttle.
