TANTALUM WELDED TUBE

High on H.C. Starck’s list of fabricated products is its tantalum components for anti-corrosion equipment. The reason being, welded tantalum tube provides excellent corrosion resistance and heat transfer for chemical processing applications. Since no allowance for metal removal by corrosion is generally necessary, wall thicknesses are specified to be as thin as structural conditions will permit.

In particular, ULTRA 76 tantalum alloys offer higher corrosion resistance in most environments thus generating value by extending the products life time, reducing material thickness and improving processes throughput. For instance, higher temperatures are possible with shorter cooling/heating cycle times using ULTRA 76.

H.C. Starck’s welded tube is rolled and welded from annealed tantalum strip and has sufficient formability to meet requirements for most operations used in fabricating chemical process equipment.

Our tantalum welded tubes offer significantly better wall thickness and concentricity control compared to seamless tubes. Why? Because the wall thickness is constant across the tube, so this eliminates weak spots where leaks occur prematurely due to corrosion. Since no allowance for metal removal by corrosion is generally necessary, wall thicknesses are specified to be as thin as structural conditions will permit.

All H.C. Starck tantalum tubes exceed ASTM B 521.

Guaranteed Quality

  • All standard tubing with 100% pressure, helium leak and ultrasonic test are tested for hermeticity
  • All capped tubing is x-rayed at cap weld for hermeticity
