TUNGSTEN HIGH DENSITY ALLOY K1705

An established tungsten high density alloy, K1705 is best suited for the tooling and metal working industry and is designed for die casting and extrusion die applications. Tungsten alloys have exceptional mechanical properties characterized by ductility and hardness and whose high density is equaled only by gold, platinum, and a few other rare and expensive metals.

The addition of chemical elements such as molybdenum, nickel, copper, and iron, creates a tungsten alloy with extremely useful properties. The alloy is economically fabricated by powder metallurgy techniques and is routinely machined by conventional methods.

K1705 offers many strategic advantages over other tool materials normally used such as H-13 tool steel:

  • Good thermal fatigue due to high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of expansion
  • Additional cooling due to high thermal conductivity
  • Low soldering and erosion due to low solubility with metal being cast
  • No heat treatment necessary
