H.C. Starck is now officially part of Mitsubishi Materials Group

Goslar, GERMANY, December 18, 2024 – On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the acquisition of H.C. Starck Holding ( Germany ) GmbH (“H.C. Starck Group”) by Mitsubishi Materials Europe B.V. (“MMEU”), a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsubishi Materials Corporation Group (“MMC”), was formally concluded.

The H.C. Starck Group includes the tungsten producer H.C. Starck Tungsten GmbH with production sites in Germany, Canada and China as well as sales offices in the US, China and Japan, the analytics specialist Chemilytics GmbH & Co KG and Chemitas GmbH, which operates the Group’s main site in Goslar, “Metallurgie Park Oker”.

Tokyo-based MMC, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of metal-based high-performance materials and products with a growing focus on the recycling of secondary raw materials.

MMC Group operates its own site in Japan for the recovery and processing of tungsten and also manufactures tungsten-based tools, for which products have been purchased for many years from H.C. Starck Tungsten.

In the last fiscal year, which ended in March, the company generated sales of around EUR 9.7 billion and employed around 18,300 people.

Dr. Hady Seyeda, CEO of the H.C. Starck Group, says: “The change of ownership opens up new, promising prospects for the strategic development of our Group. On the one hand, our recycling capabilities fit perfectly with MMC’s declared aim of focusing on particularly sustainable activities. On the other hand, forward integration into MMC’s metal-processing value chains promises considerable synergy effects.”

Shigehiko Iwahori, CEO of MMEU, adds: “This merger brings together two companies that both pursue the goal of a circular economy for valuable raw materials. By combining our strengths, we can further expand our market position and achieve synergies.”
