H.C. Starck Tungsten To Invest €50m in Tungsten Recycling Expansion at Goslar Site

New facility to cover nearly all local tungsten demand with secondary raw materials

Goslar, GERMANY, July 30, 2026 – H.C. Starck Tungsten is investing approximately €50 million to expand its tungsten recycling operations at its headquarters in Goslar, Germany. The project, the largest investment in the tungsten activities in Goslar in decades, was approved today by its parent company, Mitsubishi Materials Corporation.

The new facility will increase the site’s existing processing capacity by nearly 50 percent to approximately 7,000 metric tons per year, making it Europe’s largest tungsten recovery plant. This will enable the Goslar operation to meet almost all of its tungsten requirements with recycled material. Today, recycled tungsten already accounts for around 80 percent of the site’s raw material supply.

The expansion represents a key milestone in the MMC Group’s Medium-term Management Strategy of “Creating the Future through Resource Circulation”. Construction is scheduled to begin in early November and is expected to be completed within 2028.

“This decision marks a major milestone for our Goslar site and for our company as a whole,” said Hady Seyeda, CEO of H.C. Starck Tungsten. “Our ability to process almost exclusively recycled tungsten on site is a significant step toward the future. It will make us largely independent of the increasingly challenging supply situation for pri-mary raw materials while making a substantial contribution to establishing a genuine circular economy for critical metals in Germany and across Europe.”

Hideyuki Ozawa, Head of Business Strategy of H.C. Starck Tungsten, added: “Given the current imbalance in the global supply and demand for tungsten, we aim to complete the expansion as soon as possible and fulfill our re-sponsibility to ensure a stable supply.”

Detailed project management

Due to the limited space available at the Metallurgy Park Oker, the existing buildings will be demolished in stages while operations continue uninterrupted. They will be gradually replaced by a new facility. A detailed project man-agement approach has been developed to ensure that production activities can continue without disruption throughout the entire construction period.

Benefits for the entire H.C. Starck Group

Management also expects the investment to create benefits for the other H.C. Starck Group companies located at the Goslar site. ChemiLytics, the laboratory services company that provides analytical support for the recycling processes, is expected to benefit from the significantly higher material volumes while Chemitas, the site’s infra-structure and services provider, will benefit from the strengthened long-term competitiveness and future viability of the operations.
