Overview of the Regional Sales Manager Position

HC Starck Tungsten Powders is interested in hiring a Regional Sales Manager to continue to grow their business in key accounts within a territory that roughly covers the midwest/northeast of the United States. The company has established business with several key companies in this region that use tungsten powders to manufacture a range of high-performance products. This individual will maintain existing business levels and develop new business opportunities within these targeted accounts. The majority of products sold into this region will be manufactured in the Sarnia, Ontario plant. The Regional Sales Manager is a senior individual contributor role with an annual sales quota in the $25m range. Working with most customers needing tungsten powders, a significant focus of this person’s work will be to penetrate further and develop the existing customer base in this region. This is a career opportunity for someone who excels in a technical consultative sales role, can operate independently, and wants to grow their career with the industry leader in the tungsten powders marketplace. This person will be supported by the company’s applications engineering team, based at the Sarnia, Ontario site, where various grades of tungsten carbide powder and specialty carbides are developed and manufactured. These engineers will be a valuable resource to this Sales Manager and will travel to new customers to aid in the materials certification process with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Head of Sales – North America, this individual will work remotely from a home office and will design and execute customer sales programs to maximize sales growth, customer satisfaction and vertical market penetration.
  • Actively involved in marketing activities, industry, and competitor review as well as market analysis
  • Responsible for the reporting of sales activity versus the budget and supporting the budget process
  • Liaison to Sarnia plant for review of current orders, stocking levels, pricing
  • Follow up on leads generated by the company’s marketing department
  • Will spend approximately 50% of the time in front of customers. Typical call points include Technical Leaders, Purchasing Managers, Presidents, Business Owners, and other Executives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering or Material Science or equivalent experience, combined with a minimum of five years of proven sales experience in meeting and exceeding sales goals
  • Experience selling engineered materials, chemicals, or metal products into the high-performance product marketplace within the northeast region
  • Materials knowledge developed from working with a company that develops and manufactures tungsten chemicals, tungsten and tungsten carbide powder, and other metal powders using high-temperature processing such as titanium, etc. Cobalt powder, ceramic powders and even carbon powder, or a company that produces products from the above
  • Demonstrated success in Key Account management and development. Ability to gain the respect of senior management, identify and seize commercial opportunities while working closely with the Application Engineer in technical discussions with customers
  • Ideally, have a working knowledge or experience in the defense-based contracting process
  • Possess strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel in the region roughly 50% of the time and internationally several times a year
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Results-oriented, goal-driven with an entrepreneurial orientation
  • Should have strong analytical and financial skills when developing contracts and pricing
  • Should have well-developed presentation skills for making technical presentations to customers
  • Applicants must be able to work in the USA legally and have one of the following legal statuses:
    • US citizen
    • Permanent residents (green card holder)
    • Have a work visa for the USA
  • In addition, applicants must be based in the USA or willing to move back to the USA
